Install and Start Flowbit Calibration

This quickstart shows you how to get Flowbit Calibration running on your PC and reachable from your phone, before you go on site.

Install the capture backend first

Flowbit Calibration does not talk to the cameras itself. It drives them through Flowbit Capture, which must be installed and running on this same PC. You need it for both live capture and Sync.

  1. Install and start Flowbit Capture from Install and Run Flowbit Capture.

It covers the GStreamer, CUDA and Bonjour prerequisites you need.

  2. Bring the cameras up so they are streaming.

NOTE

Flowbit Calibration connects to Flowbit Capture on 127.0.0.1:27015 by default. If it runs elsewhere, set the host and port in ⚙ Settings → Connections. Sync still works across the network, but triggering the cameras only works when both programs run on the same PC.

Ubuntu 24.04

WARNING

Take the package that matches your PC. On Ubuntu, run lsb_release -d to check which release you have. The 24.04 build will not start on 22.04, and reports GLIBC_2.39 not found instead.

Unpack it anywhere you can write to, then follow the section for your platform below.

Install and start on Windows

  1. Run flowbit-calibration.exe. Leave the console window titled Flowbit Calibration open while you work.

  2. Open http://127.0.0.1:8600/ if your browser did not open it.

  3. Wait for the header pill to read Engine ready.

COLMAP downloads automatically on first run, so the pill reads Engine downloading NN% for a few minutes. ⚙ Settings → Reconstruction engine shows the full progress.

  4. Accept the administrator prompt the app raises on first run.

    NOTE

That prompt creates the firewall rule your phone needs to reach the app. If you declined it by mistake, select ⚙ Settings → Connections → Allow phone access to ask again.

Install and start on Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04

  1. Install the Open3D runtime libraries. You only need to do this once.

    sudo apt-get install -y
    sudo apt-get install -y
    sudo apt-get install -y
  2. Start the app.

    cd

    cd

    cd

  3. Open http://127.0.0.1:8600/ and wait for Engine ready.

If ufw is active, run sudo ufw allow 8600/tcp once.

Verify that the app is ready

  1. Check that the header pill reads Engine ready.

  2. Check that the header shows Capture backend · N streaming with a green dot, where N is the number of your cameras.

  3. Scan the QR code on card B and confirm the upload page opens on your phone.

Quit safely

Use any of these:

  • Select Quit in the header, or close the console window. Both stop the app at once.

  • Close the browser page. The app stops by itself about 15 seconds later, and waits for any running calibrate, refine or phone upload first. Reloading does not count as closing. To keep it running with no page open, start it with --no-auto-exit.

WARNING

Do not quit while a calibrate or refine is running.

You are ready to calibrate. Next, go on site and Capture the Space.
